When it comes to a good service plumber, there are a lot of factors to consider. Knowledge, experience, and mechanical ability are important, but attitude, people skills, and problem-solving abilities are equally important. Most plumbers can fix the problems they’ve been trained to fix, but a good plumber is able to use his knowledge and experience to diagnose and solve problems he’s never encountered, while simultaneously treating the customer with compassion and respect. 

The repair methods and types of materials used in specific applications are also very important. There are many, many options when it comes to the materials used within the plumbing trade. While there are some exceptions to the rule, it is generally safe to say that you get what you pay for. In some applications, less costly material choices are adequate, but in most cases, a higher quality product is desirable and justified. For example, no compromise should be made where repairs will be concealed within walls or concrete, nor in applications where product failure would be catastrophic to the structure or personal belongings, such as in attics.
